When and where
St. John Lutheran Church gathers for the Divine Service on Saturdays at 4:00 PM, Sundays at 9:30 AM, and Wednesdays at 6:00 PM. The church is at 8020 Southpark Rd. in Kellner, with a Wisconsin Rapids mailing address (WI 54494), just east of Wisconsin Rapids and a short drive from Plover and Stevens Point. On Wednesdays during the school year a free community meal is served at 5:00 PM, and everyone is welcome. Adult Bible study meets Mondays at 1:00 PM.

What to expect
How can I get more connected to St. John Lutheran before or after the service?
One of the best ways to get connected at St. John Lutheran is to talk to one of the elders, greeters, or pastor before the service. We will be glad to share some ways to get involved and introduce you to some members of our church family. You can also fill out the form below to give us a heads up or to have us reach out to you.
How would you describe the worship service?
Our worship service follows the historic Lutheran liturgy. We try to strike the balance of maintaining reverent awe and joyful expression of praise for our Lord. We believe preaching of the Gospel and the reception of the Lord’s Supper are the two pinnacles of the Divine Service. The Lord’s Supper is offered every weekend and on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. The Saturday and Sunday services last about 75 minutes, and the Wednesday service about 40 minutes. Hymns are accompanied on the organ.
What Service Do You Use?
We generally use the historic, “Common Service” for our communion liturgy (TLH page 15, Divine Service 3 in LSB). For non-communion services we use Matins, Vespers, Evening Prayer, and The Service of Prayer and Preaching.
Do you have children’s ministry?
Yes! We have “Wednesday school” on Wednesdays from 6:45 to 7:30 pm during the school year. Come early to join us at our free community meal and our Wednesday worship service. We welcome all ages to our worship services and believe that children are a vital part of the body of Christ. We do not have a staffed nursery, but a nursery room is available for parents with little ones who need a quiet moment during the service.
What should I wear?
At St. John Lutheran you will see everything from T-shirts and shorts to an occasional suit. We care about you as a person, not your wardrobe.
Do you have hearing assistive technology?
Yes. We have receivers with headsets and T-coil hearing loops
What hymnal do you use?
We have The Lutheran Hymnal in the pews and also use Lutheran Service Book Builder for our service bulletins.
What is your communion policy?
We rejoice in this celebration of the Lord’s Supper as the Lord Jesus indeed comes to us in a very intimate manner, giving to us His true Body and Blood in, with, and under the bread and wine in this sacred meal. St. Paul writes, “A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself” (1 Corinthians 11:28–29). It is out of love and care for every individual who comes to the Lord’s Supper that we ask those who are not instructed in the faith and/or doubt the presence of the Body and Blood of Jesus in this Sacrament to speak to the Pastor before attending the Lord’s Supper. Members of churches that belong to the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, believing and confessing as we do, are invited to partake in the Lord’s Supper with us. We practice closed Communion and ask that all guests who desire to commune kindly speak to the Pastor before the service. Those not communing are invited to cross their arms at the altar to signal that they wish to receive a blessing.
