The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod

We proclaim Christ crucified and worship the Holy Trinity.

Here at St. John we gather to receive God’s gifts of forgiveness, life, and salvation in Jesus Christ as we hear His Word and receive His Sacraments. Established in 1865, we are a traditional, liturgical Lutheran congregation just east of Wisconsin Rapids, and you are welcome here.

What to expect on your first visit

We worship with the historic liturgy of the Church, accompanied on the organ, and everything you need is in the hymnal and bulletin. The weekend services last about 75 minutes. Come as you are. Children are welcome in the service, a nursery room is available for parents with little ones, and hearing loops and headsets are available.

We practice closed Communion. If you are visiting and wish to commune, please speak with the Pastor before the service. Guests not communing are welcome to come forward with arms crossed to receive a blessing.

Free community meal, Wednesdays at 5:00 PM

Served every Wednesday during the school year, and everyone is welcome. Some weeks it’s pizza from a local pizzeria or subs, other weeks a home-cooked meal from our members, and about once a month a potluck. Guests never need to bring a thing. Stay for the 6:00 PM service if you like, or simply come and eat.

The same Gospel, for every generation

St. John was established in 1865 by German settlers in Kellner, and its services were originally held in German. Today we worship in English, with the same liturgy, hymns, and confession of the Lutheran Church. The parish cemetery, a half mile east of the church on Southpark Road, dates to 1866.
