Easter Lily and Crosses

Lent Begins March 1

We will again be having our mid-week Lenten Services on Wednesdays at 10:30 AM and 7:00 PM. This year’s theme: “Seven Times He Spoke”: Jesus Word’s from the Cross, will focus our attention on our Lord’s Passion and His final words from the cross. This year’s schedule is as follows:

March 1-Ash Wednesday He Spoke a Word of Forgiveness (Luke 23:34)

March 8 He Spoke a Word of Promise (Luke 23:43)

March 15 He Spoke a Word of Tender Care (John 19:26, 27)

March 22 He Spoke a Word of Absolute Anguish (Mark 15:34; Matthew 27:46)

March 29 He Spoke a Word of Need (John 19:28)

April 5 He Spoke a Word of Accomplishment (John 19:30)

April 13-Maundy Thursday He Spoke a Word of Invitation (Matthew 26:26-28; Luke 22:19, 20)

April 14-Good Friday He Spoke a Word of Trust (Luke 23:46)

April 16-Easter Sunday Jesus’ Empty tomb Shouts, “It Is Finished!” (John 19:30)

Sunday Morning Bible Class

What the Bible is All About 101: Genesis-Esther is the topic of our Sunday morning Adult Bible Class. We will be looking at the major themes of the first 17 books of the Old Testament; beginning with Genesis and working our way through Esther. If you aren’t able to join us on Sunday mornings at 8:00 AM for our class, there will be extra copies of the hand outs available in the narthex for you to read through on your own.

Thank You To Ladies Aid

The Youth of St. John would like to say thank you to the Ladies Aid for the investment they made for the youth with the purchase of 12 Confirmation gowns. We appreciate your giving from your bazaar earnings.

Thank You To Our Youth

Thank you to ALL the Youth of St. John for the hard work they put into their Servant Event a couple of weeks ago, preparing for the Spaghetti Supper. The children made 220 place mats, 140 Candy Favors, the Hanging of the Hearts, & Valentine Cards for the shut in’s. Also a very special thank you to the following youth who helped the Evening Guild the night of the event: Jenny Koch, Perry Drollinger, Nichole Ranum, Tyler Hansen, Katie Jagodinski, Mariah Reber, Apryl Zimmerman, Alex Dove, Molly Scheidegger, and Ethan Sweeney. A JOB WELL DONE, YOUTH!

Immanuel Spring Fun-Fest

Immanuel Lutheran School will have their Spring Fun-Fest on Sunday, March 5 from 11:00 am-3:00 pm. There will be a Silent Auction, Raffle Drawing with loads of great prizes, Adult & Mini-drawings, Games & Prizes. Visit our Cafe' E' Manuel in the school cafeteria. It will be a fun night for the entire family. Additional funds provided by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Lutheran Schools Week

Immanuel Lutheran School will be celebrating Lutheran Schools week from March 5 through 11. We invite you especially to our Wednesday (March 8) Ash Wednesday Chapel service at 8:50 am at the school and to the Open House from 9:30 am to 2:15 pm followed by a student talent show. Immanuel Lutheran School is now accepting applications for students in grades Kindergarten through grade 8 for next fall. Any members who may be interested in having your children receive this Christian education on a daily basis should contact the interim principal, Mr. Brian Betts, at school (423-0272)

Escape to Chicago

The North Wisconsin District Adult Ministry Committee is sponsoring an Adult Ministry Tour to Chicago on April 24-27. For tour schedule, price and other information pick up a brochure in the narthex. Space on each tour is limited, so please book early.

Crisis Counseling

Did you know? Lutheran Counseling and Family Services has an on-call service that is available to those in crisis 24 hours a day seven days a week. If you or your family is in crisis, please feel free to call (800) 291-4513.

Bethesda Winter Clearance

Bethesda ’s Upscale Resale Store in the Rapids Mall will have its annual Winter Clearance sale for clothing, shoes, and books beginning February 27. Take advantage of the super savings - 50% off on all clothing, shoes, and books. Your support will help many of the mentally and physically handicapped folks at Bethesda Lutheran Home. We also need:

  1. Donations of good clean clothing for all ages, games, glassware, knickknacks, kitchen items, etc.
  2. Volunteer help especially cashiers once or twice a month - call 421-3477 or stop at the store. We also could use someone to wash some clothing at home.
  3. Ink Cartridges - bring in your empty printer ink cartridges for recycling to support Bethesda Lutheran Home.
  4. YOU and your friends: We need people to shop at the store, take advantage of the very low prices for good items, and support Bethesda Lutheran Home.

Grief Support Series

This spring, Ministry Home Care Hospice Services will facilitate two separate 6-week grief support series in the area. “The Journey of Life-Understanding Grief” will be held on Monday evenings in Wisconsin Rapids, and Marshfield. There are no fees for this program but registration is required. Sessions will begin the week of March 6, 2006. Interested persons should call 423-5591 for more information or to register.

Ministry Home Care

Do you enjoy working with people and supporting others in your community? Volunteering with Hospice can be extremely rewarding and offers a variety of options for service. Training is required and ongoing support is provided.

Ministry Home care-Hospice serves terminally ill patients and their families within a service area of approximately 35-mile radius of Marshfield. This includes Wisconsin Rapids, Neillsville, Marshfield and the surrounding areas. We will be serving patients as far south as the Rome area this spring. Volunteers living in the communities of our service regions may offer varying roles of patient support in the home settings, nursing homes, group homes, such as social support, possibly light homemaker assistance, errands and/or brief caregiver respite as accepted by the patient and family. At the House of Dove meal assistance and social support is scheduled, as is clerical assistance in Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids office locations. Volunteers can coordinate or assist special events or fundraising activities as interested.

Four consecutive Monday afternoon sessions, starting March 6 th, will be offered for training volunteers in South Wood County. Sessions will begin at 12:30 pm at Riverview Hospital, in Wisconsin Rapids,

In Marshfield, four consecutive Monday evening sessions will be offered, beginning April 17 th. Training will begin at 4 pm at the Ministry Home Care Hospice office site at 303 West Upham Street.

If you are interested in Hospice volunteering and can attend these sessions please call Sharla at Hospice at 715-387-7052 or (800) 397-4216 to register. Training and application materials will be provided at the initial sessions.

St. John Hosting March LLL

Lutheran Laymen’s League will be hosted by St. John on Friday, March 10 at 6:30 pm. The dinner will be Meatloaf. The Program will be Carol Jackson and her friend from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wis. Rapids. They will talk about their work in Louisiana following the hurricane.

Concordia Self Study Bibles

If you would like to purchase a Concordia Self-Study Bible, our congregation has a limited number of copies available for sale. These Bibles would make nice gifts for Confirmation or Graduation. The cost is $45 per copy. Please see Pastor or contact the church office if interested.

New in the Church Library

Due to the kindness of all the congregation for the help of donating Lighthouse book cards, and buying and donating books and videos for the bazaar book sale we were able to buy the 3 DVD set of Narnia. Each one is check-out-able by itself. We have Prince Caspian, The Silver Chair and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. So, check them out along with a video for a fun evening as a family.


LWML Rally Invitation

Bethlehem LWML of Nekoosa invites you to the Spring Rally of Zone 17 LWML. The rally will be held on Thursday, April 20. Registration will be from 8:30-9:00 AM. Cost for the luncheon will be $4.00. Coffee and cookies will be served for “early birds.”

The Christian Life topic is “Friends for Christ,” based on Matthew 28:16-20, written by Rev. Russell Kampfer. Presenting the topic will be Chris Voelker. She will be assisted by Trinity LWML, Port Edwards.

“Musical Instruments of Bible Times” will be presented by Harlan and Carol Becker of Horicon, WI. They have instruments for us to see and hear. Carol, herself, has been an active LWML member.

Our Gifts of the Heart is for the Family Center, Inc. ( Family Crisis Center). Donations may include household items, diapers, blankets, paper products, non-perishable food items, etc. Also remember “Stamps for Mission!”
