Human Care Ministry: Christmas Spirit

Once again our congregation will be sponsoring a family for the Christmas Holiday. As in the past years, the information needed to purchase a gift is near the small Christmas tree displayed on a table in the narthex. If you are interested in participating, you can take an information sheet/wish list to assist you with your shopping. After you have purchased a gift, please follow the instructions on the sign-up sheet. Please document which child or children you have purchased a gift for and the item. Place the wrapped gift with the child’s name on it around the display. All wrapped gifts must be received at the church no later than Sunday, December 11. The gifts will be delivered to the family around December 15.

Ladies Aid Christmas Party

All ladies of the congregation are invited to the Ladies Aid Christmas Party. It will be a potluck dinner at the church on Thursday, Dec. 1 at noon. Please bring a $3 to $5 gift to exchange.

Christmas Cards

The Evening Guild has a nice supply of Christmas cards and napkins for sale. Stop by the library in the narthex to see them.

Just a reminder that all poinsettia orders must be in the office by December 12. Please use the insert in the bulletin to place your order.

Offering Envelopes

Please pick up your 2006 envelopes. If you didn’t get any in 2005 and would like envelopes for 2006, please call the church office. Do not use your new envelopes until January 1, 2006.

Concordia Self Study Bibles

If you would like to purchase a Concordia Self-Study Bible, our congregation has a limited number of copies available for sale. Stop by the table in the narthex to see what they are like. The cost is $45.00 per copy. Please see Pastor or contact the church office if interested.

Thrivent Financial’s New Location

On December 6, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is relocating its offices to 3930 8 th St. S. in Wis. Rapids at the Brookside Office Suites. Our Lutheran friends are invited to stop in and visit with associates Ben Laws (423-9588) and Mike Sullivan (421-1244) at their new location.

Bethesda Upscale Resale Store

Bethesda’s Upscale Resale Store in the Rapids Mall is packed with a variety of winter clothing for infants, children, men and women, shoes, books, etc. A sweater sale ($1.50 each) is now in progress. The store also has ample Christmas gifts and decorations as well as household items and knickknacks. Do your Christmas shopping at Upscale Resale with the best prices in town and at the same time you are supporting the mentally and physically disabled at Bethesda Lutheran Home. Also…we could use a few volunteers to work the cash register once or twice a month and your donations to the store are always appreciated.

Guidelines for Giving

At last you’ve come to realize that God has given you 100 percent of what you have. At last you’ve come to the conclusion that, apart from Him, you can do nothing. At last the attitudes of greed and self-sufficiency have been replaced with attitudes of humility and dependence on God. Therefore, you want to return to God part of what He has given you. You gratefully acknowledge that all you have belongs to Him, but you need part of that to support yourself. How do you decide how much and in what way you will give? Those are decisions you make personally with God’s leading, but the following are some guidelines to consider.

Through the working of the Holy Spirit, God will grant us the strength to be faithful and obedient to His giving principles. As Paul wrote, “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13).
